Giorgi Labauri: From Rising Competitor to Inspiring Coach

The UAE jiu-jitsu scene continues to grow stronger every season, and one name that’s been making waves is Giorgi Labauri. Known for his sharp technique, relentless drive, and standout performances on the international stage, Giorgi has quickly become one of the most exciting athletes to watch in the region. Now, he is bringing his skills and experience to the next generation as part of BKG Sports Club and schools Hartland International and JESS.

A Journey Through Competition

Promoted to blue belt in October 2023 by renowned coach Thiago Sar, Giorgi wasted no time testing himself against the best. He has competed across the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP) Tour, collecting points, medals, and respect along the way.

Some of his standout achievements include:

• Abu Dhabi World Grappling Championship 2025 – representing himself on one of the most prestigious grappling stages in the world.

• UAE National Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2025 (Gi) – taking part in the nation’s flagship event.

• Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Grappling World Tour 2024-2025 – testing his skills against elite grapplers.

• Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu World Tour (Amateurs, 2025) – demonstrating his growth on the international amateur circuit.

By the end of the 2024–2025 season, Giorgi had built an impressive competitive record:

• Ranked #7worldwide, #7 in Europe, and #1 in Georgia in the AJP Tour Blue Belt division.

• Ranked #17 worldwide, #7in Europe, and #1 in Georgia in the AJP Tour Grappling division.

These achievements highlight not only his talent but also his commitment to continuous improvement.

Building Experience With Top Teams

Before stepping into his new coaching roles, Giorgi honed his craft by training with some of the most respected academies in the UAE, including Team Nogueira Dubai, Commando Group, and M.O.D UAE. This exposure to diverse training styles and world-class athletes has shaped him into a well-rounded competitor — and now, a promising coach.

Giving Back as a Coach

Giorgi is now channeling his passion for the sport into teaching. He has officially joined BKG Sports Club, where he will be coaching students of all levels. In addition, he has started teaching at two leading schools in Dubai — Hartland International School and Jumeirah English Speaking School (JESS).

His approach to teaching blends the technical precision he’s developed on the mats with the values of discipline, respect, and perseverance that jiu-jitsu instills. For students, this is a unique opportunity to learn directly from a competitor who is actively testing his skills on the world stage.

Looking Ahead

Whether he’s competing on the international circuit or guiding students through their first classes, Giorgi Labauri represents the energy and future of jiu-jitsu in the UAE. His journey is only just beginning, and we’re proud to have him as part of the BKG Sports Club family.

Stay tuned — this is a name you’ll be hearing a lot more in the jiu-jitsu community.
